Barney
Miller – the 8 years long TV series
The Barney Miller was
one of the best television comedy series located in the New York City
police station in Greenwich Village. It was a large time lasting
comedy series that started in January 23, 1975 and ran till May 20,
1982 on ABC. The majority of the exciting episodes were directed by
Danny Arnold and Theodore J. Flicker. Noam Pitlik.
The
attracting opening note at the base line of the theme song was
performed by studio musician, Jim Hughart. It was played over a shot
of New York skyline and followed by the shots of characters. The
opening theme music that catches the attraction of thousand of
audiences was composed by Jack Elliot and Allyn Ferguson. In the
other seasons just a little modification was done in the theme song.
The TV serial was mainly filmed on the relationship between
the detectives and their natures, nominal problems, interaction
between them, suspects and witnesses they detained and some other
activities of the detectives.
Captain Barney Miller (Hal
Linden) was the focus character of this series. Liz was his wife and
son and daughter was David and Rachel. They played only in the first
episode and soon after that written out. His wife appeared in the
second season. After two episodes Wyndham also reprised her role.
Another important character was Fish. His wife Bernice
appeared regularly in season one to three. His grown up daughter was
Beverly and the role was played by Emily Levine. The number of awards
that the serial has achieved is simply outstanding. In most of the
sides it was perfect. Barney Miller got the award of DGA in 1981. The
series own the Primetime Emmy Award for marvelous Comedy Series in
1982 and for wonderful directing in a Comedy series in 1979. The
Golden Globe Award for Best Television Comedy or Musical Series was
also achieved in 1976 and 1977. Also the Peabody Award was achieved
in 1979.
After a few days of starting this show, the huge
publicity leads the director to produce it in a great way. Most of
the scenes were filmed in one or two set in only one building in
front of audiences. After completing the editorial team re filmed
added or subtracted some items. In this way it become more popular.
